Why live in London?
London is one of the most expensive places to live in the UK. It’s also very big and can seem overwhelming. But it also offers some of the most diverse, challenging and exciting experiences you can have. Many graduates and young people decide to move to London to explore the opportunities that the capital has available to them in terms of career, social life and cultural experiences.
Where do I start?
It can seem like a big mission to move to London. Where do you start? Where do you want to live? What kind of accommodation is available? Perhaps most importantly, what sort of budget do you need?
The place to start is with Hyelm. We are a charity dedicated to helping young people move to to the capital. We provide low-cost accommodation when you initially move to London to help you start out in the Big Smoke.
How can Hyelm help me?
Our developments have been tailored specifically to help you settle into the capital in comfortable surroundings with a community of young people setting out to do just the same as you!
Where is the Hyelm housing?
Situated in the vibrant heart of Hoxton, our Old Street development finds itself in a young and exciting area of London. It’s a mere 10 minutes walk from Old Street underground giving excellent connections to the whole of London for work and play.
We also have new developments underway to provide additional housing for young people moving to London.
What types of accommodation are on offer?
Old Street has a combination of accommodation types. We offer one bedroom flats as well as cluster apartments with en-suite bedrooms and communal kitchen and lounge areas. The latter can be a great way to socialise with others who are starting out in London, make lasting friendships and a great support network.
Am I eligible?
To be eligible for a place in our Old Street property you will need to be:
- 18 years or over
- Earning a low to moderate income (no greater than 20% above the London Living Wage)
- Have a recognised need for affordable housing
- In the early years of your career
- In need of no support
- Able to contribute to a positive, safe and stable community
Is Hyelm experienced?
We are a registered charity and have been providing affordable housing since the late 1890s. We provide low cost housing for over 125 young people in London and all of our profits get reinvested into our charities Hyelm and The Ames House Trust to improve our offering.
